The department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME)&#13;
of Bangladesh University of Engineering &amp; Technology, Dhaka is the&#13;
only department in Bangladesh which plays a significant role in ~he&#13;
maritime field. The department has more than thirty years of history of&#13;
excellence in undergraduate and post-graduate study and research.&#13;
This information booklet provides general information about the&#13;
university, its historical background, faculties, teaching departments,&#13;
teaching staffs of NAME department'etc. Different aspects of the course,&#13;
system, such as, rules and regulations relating to admission, credit&#13;
structure, course offering instructions, attendance, teacher student&#13;
__contact, _grading system, performance evaluation, requirement for&#13;
degrees etc. -are introduced. It describes the course requirements, detail&#13;
course outline and courses offered in different terms for the&#13;
undergraduate students of Naval Architecture &amp; Marine Engineering&#13;
Department.&#13;
The new course curriculum described in this booklet is prepared by&#13;
teachers of the department keeping pace with the present scenarios of&#13;
this field in other renowned universities of Asia, Europe and America. In&#13;
curriculum, students can choose their field of specialization from any of&#13;
the two divisions,: i.e." hydrodynamics &amp; structure and design &amp;&#13;
production in addition to the fundamentals and basic courses of Naval&#13;
Architecture &amp; Marine Engineering.&#13;
Some of the information recorded in this booklet is likely to be updated&#13;
from time to time. Students are strongly advised to be in touch with their&#13;
advisors regarding any update approved by the University.&#13;
We hope this information booklet will be very much useful to the new&#13;
undergraduate students and to the student's advisors in the Department of&#13;
Naval Architecture &amp; Marine Engineering.

The program of study in Naval Architecture and Marirle&#13;
Engineering covers the. diversified range starting from ships&#13;
hulls t6 exploration of opportunities for harnessing all kinds of&#13;
resources from the sea .. Such topics as the form, strength.&#13;
stability, sea keeping qualities, resistance and propulsion of&#13;
ships. economic aspects of ship design and shipopeiation and&#13;
many courses of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering,&#13;
civil engineering and metallurgical engineering are covered.&#13;
Other subjects of concerns are fundamental of the physical&#13;
sciences and mathematics, Humanities and Social sciences.&#13;
Since the design of modern ship or any marine. system of&#13;
whatever configuration or function encompasses many&#13;
engineering fields, graduates of this department are called upon.&#13;
to handle diverse professional responsibilities.&#13;
Undergraduate students seeking the degree (B.Sc. Engineering in&#13;
Naval Architecture and Marine) must complete a series of&#13;
subjects. In addition to the undergraduate .course, there are&#13;
postgraduate programmes available in which the students get the&#13;
opportunity to specialize in certain areas in gre~ter depth.&#13;
Since the Department was born in 1971, it has so far produced 20&#13;
batches com.prlsing 127 Naval Architects and Marine Engineers&#13;
who have found their employment both at home and abroad. The&#13;
dep.art1?ent is enriched with a group of highly qualified teaching&#13;
staffs who have had their education and training form various&#13;
renowned Institutions of the world.
