dc.description.abstract Multiexchange networks with direct routing (simple), alternate routing (hierarchical) and alternate routing (symmetrical) networks are studied in this work. Network systems are studied by digital simulation. Roulettemodel simulation method is used in this case. The computer program is written in Fortran IV and run in IBM 4331. The validity of the simulation model cheeRed with the similiar results obtained from analytical or exact solution method ( which is derived on the basis of classical probability theory) for small systema. The equations derived for different simple systems in exact solution method are solved with Gaussian-elimination technique. Three, four and.five exchange networks are studied in the present work. Maximum number of links considered here are ninety (90) and the traffic considered from 0.5 to 0.85 erlangs. 'Congestion probability' and 'Traffic handling capacity' are considered as performance indices of the network systems. Results obtained from exact solution and simulation methods are presented graphically. The performance of symmetrical network is the best among the three systems studied followed by direct routing (simple) and alternate routing networks (hierarchical). en_US
