Abstract:
The unsteady free oonveotion flow of a visco~elastic eleotrically
conduoting fluid past an infinite non-conducting vertical flat
plate 1n presence of a transverse magnetic field has been
studied. The magnetio lines of force have been fixed relative to
the plate. Laplace transform technique has been employed to
solve the basic differential equations. The influence of Grashof
number G, Prandtl number Pr, elastic prameter S and magnetic
field para~eter M on the velocity distribution and skin-friotion
faotor have been presented for (1) Impulsive motion and (2)
Uniformly accelerated motion of the plate. The velocity profile
increases with an increase in time parameter T and Grashof number
G for impulsive m~~ion as well as for uniformly accelerated
motion when the ~lat~ is being cooled. Here the effeot of elastic
parameter S 1S to d",crease the velocity field in case of both
the motions, Skin frl.etion decreases with Pramltl number Pr fe",
externally cooled ~late. Furthermore it is observed that skin
friction is greater in the case of uniformly accelerated motion
than in the case of impulsive motion for both colling and heating
of the plate for small
