dc.description.abstract Attempt!;to calculate the added rBllistance of Il. ahip in \;laves started in late thirties and manyresearoh works have been undertaken since then by -many reeearcherB. ThOBe research workBare prinoipally ooncentrated for large and very large ehips. WorkB for small ships in this area have been rarely reported. In Bangladesh, no attemptB elBB Is BBenin thiB field due to lack of availability of a theoretical tool and BJtI>erimentalfacilities. So there Is a need of theoretioal tool and alBo of a simplified method from which approxl.lllatesolutions maybe obtained. The principal requirement outlined above hae served as a guideline in the development of the present work. A particular strip theory waB employedfor prediction of coupled motion responses of heave. pitch and their phases in regular head \;laves. Theee motion rSBponseB and phases was then used for prediction of added resistance in resular head waves using radiated energy approach. The meanadded resistance in a long crested irrsgular head waves was then calculated using I'ITC formulation for wavespectrum and added resistance operator by the principle of linear superposition teolmique. CompUterprograms have been developed on the basis of employedtheories and methods. Three small ships of Bangladeeh of varying types have been taken for prediction. Extensive cOlll~ltations have been madewith these shipe for prediction of meanadded resistance at different sea • atate5 and at different speeds. Effect of 'speed and hull form on mean added resistance haa also been studied. Finally simple relatlonahlpa have been developed from the detailed calculated results. en_US
