Abstract:
The main factor influencing machining as well as the production
cost is tool life. Cutting speeds have relatively large effects
upon wear rate and, thsrefore, on tool life. But in practice,
cutting speeds are determined ei'ther by mere experience as usually
done by machine tool operators or selected from available
engineering tables. In both the cases, the assigned values are,
generally, too far away from the economic values. This thesis
presents a scientific method of predicting

carbide tool material. Experiments have been done to find tHe
influence 01 the properties of work materials on machinability. It
has been establ i shed "Lhat machi nabi 1i ty is inverse 1y proportional
to hardness and strength of materials and these relationships can
be used to determine the machinability of any other materials.
