Abstract:
An electric power system network contains generation, transmission and distribution of
power. There are number of authorities involved with power system and everyone
maintains its own system and there is no consistency with each other. To address this
problem a generalized database is designed considering aforementioned three components.
Two databases are designed one local database for substation where data is directly
collected from the EMS (Energy Measurement System). And another central database for
SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) center where data is sent (collected)
continuously from remote substations. Proposed system uses EDGE (Enhanced Data rates
for GSM Evolution) or DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) network technology for sending
data from remote terminal unit to SCADA center. Developed database has been
implemented for power utility company DES CO. Finally a set of reports format have
been designed from both RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) and MTU (Master Terminal Unit)
perspectives.
