Blood glucose monitoring is crucial to control diabetes. Daily blood glucose
monitoring is very important to reduce the risk of complications and improve the quality
of life. Thus, regular measurement of blood glucose level is very much effective for
controlling diabetes. One of the burdens faced by the diabetic patients is high frequency
of visits to hospital for treatment. This is time consuming and incurs high expenses to
patients.
This project presents the development of a convenient blood glucose monitoring
system. In this monitoring system, diabetic patients measure their blood glucose regularly
. at home or anywhere. Then, the measured data is sent to the doctor through short
message service (SMS) using mobile phone. At the doctor's end, the received data is
stored in a database, which is managed by a database management system (DBMS). The
DBMS provides a centralized storage and management of the chronological diabetic data.
The developed system gives complete diabetes information of the patients to doctor for
analysis and diagnosis. The doctor then can send advice and proper medications for the
patients using the proposed system.
As a result the proposed system saves the diabetic patients from the burden of
visiting doctors frequently which leads to a significant reduction of cost and save their
invaluable time. |
