Abstract:
Multimedia Database maintenance, manipulation and storage on the web is very
expensive and. inefficient both in terms of space and time. Lot of researches are
going on all around to develop a handsome and effective 'Multimedia Database
Indexing'. In this thesis, efforts were made to develop a sound technique for
'Multimedia Database Indexing' by totally avoiding existing complex web based
search from HTTP server's Metadata repository in XML. Architecture is proposed
to add an intermediate database layer in between HTTP server and the Metadata
Editor/Generator. RDBMS is chosen for the database server to take full
advantage of that database management system. Due to the hierarchical nature
of the data of Multimedia Data (Digital Video is taken for experiment), a special
type of Indexing technique is proposed. This technique contributed a lot to avoid
repeated table retrieval and experienced excellent query performance. A
program code has been developed for the implementation of the algorithm for the
special Indexing technique.
