Abstract:
Strained environment is a global problem. In melal industries the USB of
coolarlt has become more problematic In terms of both employee health and
enVIronmental pollution. It is said thaI the use of coolant forms approximately
8-16 % of the total production cost.
The traditional methods that use coolants are now obviously becoming
obsolete. Hence, it is clear that uSing a dry Gutting system has great
implications for resource preservation and waste reduction. For this purpose,
a new Gooling system is designed for dry cutting. This research work
presents an eco-friendly cooling Innovation and the benefit gained by using
this method. In order to compare the performance of usmg thiS system,
grinding experiments were carried out on dry and flood cutting environment In
different infeed condition
The present work investigates the role of cryogenic cooling by liquid
nitrogen jet on chip formation, grinding zone temperature arid surface
roughness in grinding steels. The experimental results indicate Significant
reduction irl cutting temperature on application of cryogen, whiCh enables
favorable chip formatioll It was also Iloted that cryogenic grinding prOVide
relatively more surface roughness for less plastic deformatioll and rubbing,
shearing and fracturing modes of chip formation and retention of the grit's
sharpness. Therefore, it appears that cryogenic cooling, if properly employed,
Ilot only provides ellvironment frielldllness but can also Improve the
grlndability characteristics.
