dc.description.abstract This thesis simply highlights the general principles of TQM involved and to point out how this approach has been and can be used to improve the quality of an academic institution. This work has been specified for higher education that various institutions in Bangladesh and it will cover the whole of institution, programs, department, or services. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze TQM models, experience and problems of its application in higher education institutions in Bangladesh and also to assess some indices of TQM implementation in education institutions in Bangladesh. The quality of the teachers is a great concern now a days. It is also important for a nation that how the requirements of the teachers and students are getting fulfilled. For improving the quality of education there is no exceptions but to analyze those issues in the context of academic institutes. In spite of TQM universality in Bangladesh, it is spread mostly in manufacture and in some kinds of service business. However, there is not much done in TQM implementation in such spheres as in colleges and universities, research and consulting business here. In fact, the way in which these institutions are working with quality issues now, will be compared with a TQM approach and the weaknesses and strengthen of the quality work of these institutions will be recognized. After reviewing the current situation of these institutions in the context of quality and identifying possible existing problems, the author will offer some recommendations and suggestions for improvement. The assessment of the quality of the teachers and their satisfaction would be measured. How the students are thinking of their facilities provided by the institution would be analyzed here. Both the teachers’ and the students’ requirements would be tempted to analyze through Quality Function Deployment (QFD). For this purpose, in the theoretical frame of reference, specific TQM approaches will be developed and some detail descriptions of terms involved in this approach will be reviewed. In order to reach to the objectives of this thesis work, the researcher will use primary data in the form of interviews and questionnaires, and secondary data from literatures, scientific articles, and books and Web Pages. In conclusion, the author is aimed to provide a complete documentation in its kind in the field of quality and Total Quality Management, which could facilitate the academic institutions in Bangladesh to improve the quality of higher education. en_US
