dc.description.abstract In this thesis under the title “Hydromagnetic effects on internal flow separation in a diverging channel with permeable boundaries” the effects of externally applied homogeneous magnetic field on the steady flow of conducting viscous fluid in a slowly-varying exponentially and uniform width linearly diverging channel with permeable boundaries is investigated. Here it is determined numerically the effect of the magnetic field on the internal flow separation development as flow Reynolds number increases. The flow governing equations are non-linear in nature. So perturbation method has been used and found the solution series in terms of stream function and vorticity which represents the flow characteristics. For this a program using computer symbolic algebra language MAPLE has been written. Using that solution series the dimensionless form of wall shear stress formed. Then the series for the wall shear stress is transformed into several diagonal Padé approximants in order to improve its usefulness. Now equate the numerator of the Padé approximant of wall shear stress to zero and compute the Reynolds number at which the separation occurs in the flow field for a given position on the channel. The axial velocity profile at that position on the channel have also been analyzed in this study. The above results reveal that internal flow separation development at moderately large Reynolds number is suppressed by an increase in magnetic field intensity as well as permeable parameter values. en_US
