dc.description.abstract Organophosphorus compounds have multipurpose uses such as insecticides, harbicides, and fungicides and as antiviral drugs. A convenient and facile method for the Synthesis of bis- (aromatic substituted) chlorophosphine oxide have been developed by the reaction of phosphoryl oxychloride with Grignard reagents in presence of dry ether at room temperature. In vitro antimicrobial activities of bis-(substituted aromatic) chlorophosphine oxide were investigated. The compounds showed mild growth inhibition against antibiotic susceptible standard and clinically isolated strains of Gram positive and Gram negative (aerobic & anaerobic) bacteria as well as human fungal pathogens. All the synthesized organophosphorus compounds were purified by column chromatography and characterized by using physical and spectral data such as m.p.,% yield, IR and 1H NMR. en_US
