Abstract:
Piperaceae plants such as Piper chaba H. is enriched with important biologically active compounds. From the profound interest of these compounds and their useful biological activities, stems were extracted with ethanol. Then the ethanol extract was partitioned with n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol respectively. The partitioned extracts were subjected to various chromatographic techniques to isolate the pure compounds for characterization and determination of their biological activities. Four compounds were characterized from the plant extract. Among the compounds stigmasterol were isolated from the n-hexane part. Three other compounds piperine, 4ʹ,5ʹ-dimethyl-3ʹ-hydroxy isoflavan, 3ʹ,5ʹ-dimethyl-4ʹ-hydroxy isoflavan were isolated from the ethyl acetate part ............
