In this study the template synthesis and characterization of metal ion
complexes of Cu (II) are presented. New 16‐membered tetraaza macrocyclic
complexes of the type [M (C8H16N8O4) (ClO4)2], [M (C10H20N8O4)(ClO4)2 ],
[M (C20H24N8O4) (ClO4)2], where, M is Cu (II) were synthesize by the template
condensation of formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, benzaldehyde with the
corresponding hydrated metal salts of CuCl2.2H2O in aqueous medium. These
complexes were distinctly colored and stable to atmospheric conditions. These
complexes were characterized by UV‐Vis, IR as well as by measurements of
their respective molar conductance and magnetic susceptibility. The low molar
conductance values obtained in DMSO for these complexes indicated their non
electrolyte nature. Furthermore, from their magnetic susceptibility values, UVVis
spectra and FTIR spectra, these newly prepared complexes were expected
to have octahedral geometry, with the respective Cu (II) ion occupying the
center of an octahedron.
The complexes [Cu(C8H16N8O4)(ClO4)2], [Cu(C10H20N8O4)(ClO4)2],
[Cu(C20H24N8O4)(ClO4)2], were prepared by the reaction of malonodihydrazide
with cupper(II) perchlorate hexahydrate in presence of different aldehyde i.e.
formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, benzaldehyde respectively in 2:1:2 molar ratio. |
