Abstract:
This thesis investigates the factors contributing to the failure in the IT system of the banking industry of Bangladesh. 32 experts having a different level of expertise in the respective field were consulted for their feedback. Based on the experts’ opinions and weight on the specified evaluating criteria, an analysis was conducted using a rough set theory to produce the framework of the IT system’s failure factor for managers of the banking sector in order to make a crucial decision. Based on the issues faced by the banking sector lately, various factors were prioritized to facilitate managers with a framework for addressing failures accordingly. In this study, an extended approach with the integration of rough set theory and TOPSIS is demonstrated. The goal is to develop a model using multi-criteria decision-making method for analyzing the failure factors of the IT system in the banking industry. This work addresses effectiveness and accuracy, considering vagueness and subjectivity of experts’ opinions. The proposed framework is expected to motivate the managers of corresponding fields to identify the factors responsible for the failure of the IT system in the banking industry and hereby, prioritize them accordingly. Financial experts can further raise queries regarding the framework, which can be resolved by discussing with IT personnel.
