Abstract:
An experimental investigation for the production of fine jute yarn of 103 tex (3
Ib/spy) and 138 tex ( 4 lb/spy) has been conducted. In this investigation a laboratory
type Apron Draft Spinning rilachine of 8 spindles has been modified into ring
system.
BangIa White B (BWB) grade jute fibre was used as raw material for the production
of jute yarns of 103 tex and 138 tex . The input sliver of the experimental machine
was controlled between 2415 and 2760 gil 000 metre. The speed of the spindles was
increased up to 9000 rpm from its original flyer speed of 4250 rpm.
A good number of experiments were carried out for finding out the optimum
machine parameters such as spindle speed, draft, twist, ring size and traveller size of
the machine for the production of the fine jute yarn. The machine parameters were
optimized in accordance with the spinning efficielicy / productivity and properties of
the produced yarns.
The properties of the produced yarns were tested and found similar to those produced
by standard fine jute yarn producing machines viz. Gardella Spinning Machine and
N.S.C. Ring Spinning Machine. Quality ratio of the yarn produced by the modified
machine is similar to the yarns produced by other Ring Spinning Machines.
Extensive experimental investigations were performed to determine dillerent
optimum machine parameters. Data obtained li.om the experiments on dillerent
machine parameters are plotted in different graphs against productivity of the
machine.
Optimum parameters of the experimental machine were determined for the
production of 103 tex and 138 texjute yarn. The optimum parameters for production
of 103 tex j ute yarn are, draft = 16-20, spindle speed = 8000 rpm, twist = 315 tpm
(turns/metre), ring size = KW (4) 76 mm diameter and traveller type G, number I
and the optimum parameters for production of 138 tex jute yarn are, draft = 16-20,
spindle speed = 7000 rpm, twist = 275 tpm, ring size = KW (4) 76 mm diameter and
traveller type G, number I.
Three nomograms for selection of spindle speed, draft and twist for the production of
103 lex and 138 tex jute yarn have been developed. A yarn manufacturer can use
these nomograms as a guide for selection of machine parameters (such as draft,
spindle speed and twist etc.) according to the requirement for production of fine jute
yarn.
