dc.description.abstract Due to poor economic conditions, individuals ,1ike to use cars of old models on roads. Actual fuel consumption of these cars is substantially more than that of the cars of new models. The new model cars have more efficient engines, better transmission and drive system, and better aerodynamics of the car body which decrease the fuel consumption of the new model cars. Moreover, less efficiejengines more pollutants through exhaust. of old cars cause it to emit This research work includes various commonly used cars to study the actual fuel consumption. Toyota cars of various models were selected for study of fuel consumption and their exhaust gas emissions CO2, HC). (CO, In this experiment, cars were driven on roads and actual fuel consumptions were recorded by using of ali tre-meter. Exhaust gas components were also determined by an exhaust gas analyzer. Fuel consumption of a '92-model car was found to be about 45% less than that of a '73 model car. The consumptions of fuel of all other newer model of cars were measured and it was found model cars are not only economic in fuel consumption but also less hazardous for human health and for climatic condition. The use of new vehicles, in national perspective, may reduce the fuel budget by 25% which amounts to about Tk 250 crores a year or so. to be less proportionat","ly. This is due to better designs of engines and accessories ;-,;"--~ Exhaust gas components, CO, HC and CO2, were measured. Harmful gas, CO was found to be about' 21.71% less in a' 92 model car as compared to the value of a'73 model car. Other pollutants were 'also found to be less in recent cars. This shows that the recent en_US
